TED — cut a pool’s running cost without touching the pool.

A pool pump is often the largest single load in an Australian home, and almost all of them run far longer than they need to. TED is a smart plug and app that works out how long the pump actually needs, schedules around weather and tariffs, and ties runtime to measured water chemistry.

The unglamorous, expensive problem

Pool owners set a timer once, at install, and never revisit it. Eight hours a day at 1.1 kW is roughly $1,200 a year, and most of those hours are doing nothing except turning water over that is already clean.

The obstacle is not the hardware. It is that nobody can safely shorten the runtime without knowing whether the water will hold — so everyone over-runs the pump as insurance.

How TED closes that loop

  • A smart plug between the existing pump and the wall — no new pump, no rewiring
  • Six-in-one test strips read in the app, so chemistry becomes a number instead of a guess
  • Runtime derived from that chemistry plus weather, not from a fixed timer
  • Live energy tracking, so the saving is visible rather than promised

Positioning

The product line is deliberately cheap — under $150 — because it has to pay itself back inside the first season to be an easy decision. "Less work, not more" is the whole pitch: any optimisation that costs the owner attention will be switched off within a month.
